The GDR Museum is located there, a foray through the history of the GDR or take a boat trip from there. Culinary we recommend "Andy Diner". For me, one of the best burgers in town.
Alexanderplatz is only a stone's throw away. There you can visit the TV tower.
We would also like to recommend a detour to Hackescher Markt, which is located in the immediate vicinity of Berlin Cathedral.
The magnificent boulevard "Unter den Linden" begins shortly behind the cathedral. You can stroll along the avenue to the Brandenburg Gate or take one of the buses, for example the 100 bus.

History of the Berlin Cathedral
The construction of the Berlin Cathedral began in the middle ages. Formerly the court and cathedral of the Hohenzollern, it was rebuilt by Kaiser Wilhelm II between 1894 and 1905. The almost 11-year construction finished with the inauguration of the central building, which took place on February 27, 1905. The cathedral dome rose 114 meters above street level. The construction of the cathedral cost 11.5 million marks, at that time a considerable sum. If you want to build the cathedral today, the estimates of the architects start around 180 million euros. In 1940, the altar windows were destroyed by an air raid. Unfortunately, in 1944, the impact of a liquid bomb hit the base of the dome lantern. Since the fire could not be extinguished, it destroyed the entire dome construction. Parts of the burning dome plunged into the church space, piercing the floor. This allowed the fire to spread further into the tomb. In just one night, the cathedral was turned into a ruin. In addition, vandalism and the effects of weather further eroded the cathedral.
Money for the necessary security came only sparsely together. Only in November 1948, after the end of the war, the bells of the cathedral could be heard again. In 1953 an emergency roof over the cathedral dome was erected.
The reconstruction began in 1975 with financial support from the Evangelical Church of Germany and the Government of the Federal Republic. The restored baptismal and wedding church has been used again since 1980 for worship and events of the cathedral community. In 1983, the construction of the outer facade of the cathedral was completed.
There were major changes in the dome area. In 1984, work began on interior work. The reopening of the sermon church took place during a solemn service on June 6, 1993. Furthermore, the glass windows in the sanctuary and the mosaic paintings in the dome of the sermon church were reconstructed in the next few years. Finally, on June 29, 2002, the solemn unveiling of the last domed mosaic took place. The Hohenzollern vault has been open to the public since 20 November 1999. The organ with its 7269 pipes (113 stops, four manuals plus pedal) is the largest organ in Berlin and was at that time the largest cathedral organ in Germany.
Church services and events are held daily. For every Berlin visitor the Berlin Cathedral is a must. And if you want to enjoy a magnificent view over Berlin, then climb the 270 steps to the dome. You will be rewarded with a view over the Museum Island, the New Synagogue, the Gendarmenmarkt, the Reichstag and the Red City Hall.
