The Museum of the Ancient Near East is one of the most important museums for oriental antiques in the world, alongside the Louvre and the British Museum.
The museum houses one of the largest collections of Near Eastern art in the world. On 2,000 square meters of exhibition space, distributed over 14 halls, it gives an impression of the 6,000 year history, culture and art in the Middle East. You can admire the world-famous finds from Babylon, Assur, Syria and Uruk. Great attractions are: the throne room façade of Babylon, one of the "Seven Wonders of the Ancient World", the Ishtar Gate and the Processional Way.

The Museum of the Ancient Near East is located in the southern wing of the Pergamonmuseum, which in turn is located in the heart of the Museum Island. The Museum Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers days of travel through the history and cultures of our world. Other museums on the island are: the New Museum, the Old National Gallery, the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection (in the New Museum), Bode Museum and the Museum of Prehistory and Early History (in the New Museum). Not far away are the impressive Berlin Cathedral and Alexanderplatz with its television tower.

Brief History of Middle Museum Berlin
The museum was founded in 1899 and the first finds came to Berlin in the middle of the 19th century, when Prussia acquired reliefs from the excavations in Nineveh in London, and since 1907 the Pergamon Museum was built according to plans by Alfred Messel and Ludwig Hoffmann, whose southern wing was intended from the outset for the Near Eastern department. The Near Eastern antiquities were looked after in various collections. In 1930, the Pergamonmuseum was opened and thus the collections could be presented in an exhibition. There were hardly any war-related losses during the Second World War. The mobile exhibits, which were brought to the Soviet Union as art police, were returned to East Germany in 1958. The collection was reopened as the Museum of the Ancient Near East as early as 1953.
