Academy of Arts on Pariser Platz Berlin

Academy of Arts on Pariser Platz Berlin

Can art and the natural sciences be learned? The academy says "yes" to this. In doing so, it ties in with the academies founded in Paris and Rome, which are guided by this idea.

The Academy's tasks are in the fields of music, fine arts, literature, architecture, performing arts, film and media art.
It is a popular centre for readings, discussions and cultural events.
You can visit the exhibitions every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the halls and also on the bridge and in the passage. Here it shows art and documentary exhibitions as well as temporary installations and organises academy talks, concerts, film, theatre and dance performances.

BERLIN

Brief history of the Academy of Arts Pariser Platz

Since the 1690s, the Prussian Academy of Fine Arts, founded by Elector Friedrich III of Brandenburg, served under various names as an art council and educational society for the Prussian government. It was the third oldest such academy in Europe.
Until 1902 the institution was housed in No. 8 Unter den Linden, then the premises were cleared and rebuilt as the seat of the Berlin State Library. The Academy then moved to the Pariser Platz next to the Hotel Adlon. In the divided Germany of the post-war period, two parallel organizations took its place. The western successor resided in the converted Hansaviertel in West Berlin. The eastern successor organisation became the Academy of Arts of the GDR in 1972. These two were admitted to today's academy on 1 October 1993. The new building on Pariser Platz was opened in 2005.
