The Nikolaikirche is located within the Nikolaiviertel (Nikolai-Quarter), the oldest residential area of Berlin. With its medieval streets, numerous restaurants and pubs it is among the most popular sightseeings for Berliners and tourists.
The Nikolaikirche is the oldest church in Berlin. It was built in 1230 until 1250 and is now under monumental protection. In World War II the church was destroyed to its foundation and remained ruined for many years to come. From 1980 to 1987, in celebration of the 750-year anniversary of Berlin, it was completely rebuilt. Today the Nikolaikirche is also a museum and houses the
permanent exhibition "Vom Stadtgrund bis zur Doppelspitze." Special exhibitions take place there as well. Also, worth mentioning are the concerts taking place inside the church, it has some unique acoustics! Every Friday you can listen to he organ play.
