The Globe Fountain in Berlin

The Globe Fountain in Berlin

The Globe Fountain (Weltkugelbrunnen) in front of the Europa-Center on the Breitscheidplatz

(also affectionately called “Wasserklops" (water ball) by Berliners) is a popular meeting place for locals and tourists alike. On the occasion of a redesign of the Breitscheidplatz, the well was built in 1983 according to plans by Schmettau and Susanne Behlert. It looked very modern and somehow artistically ahead of its time. The "Wasserklops" is a sophisticated water feature and not just a simple city fountain; at a first glance, the structure might not reveal itself to you, but a closer look is worthwhile. Bubbles and bow fountains, water stairs, cascades and interesting figures are moistened by the water, and the beholder always discovers something new. There are also attractive cafes and restaurants in the area. Many street artists such as musicians, barrel organ players, clowns or portrait artists can also be found here. On hot summer days, the well is a very welcome place for refreshment for exhausted shoppers and especially for the children.

Address: Breitscheidplatz, 10789 Berlin
