In the vast Recreational Park Marzahn, today better known as "Gardens of the World", you can experience international garden art from different epochs and regions in an impressive and varied way.
On 43 hectares, ten traditional theme gardens, nine contemporary garden cupboards and numerous other attractions invite you on a journey through time and the world of horticulture. As part of the International Garden Exhibition Berlin 2017 (IGA), the grounds of the Gardens of the World were more than doubled in size. Over the years, Japanese, Balinese, Middle Eastern, Korean and Christian theme gardens have been added, as well as the Italian Renaissance garden and the Chinese Garden of the Restored Moon. Float into the grounds with the cable car, romp with "Konrad in the South Seas", be enchanted by water games and sound installations, visit the Japanese cherry blossom festival or enjoy a concert in the open-air arena. The gardens of the world offer visitors all this and much more.

The Gardens of the World are located in the northeast of Berlin, in the district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf. Far away from the noise and hustle and bustle of the city centre. They are almost at the border to Brandenburg, but it is still not JWD (Janz far outside). If you want to visit this recreation park, you should plan the whole day, because the gardens of the world already offer enough to discover.

Brief history of the Marzahn Recreational Park & gardens of the world in Berlin
The Marzahn Recreation Park was opened on 9 May 1987 on the occasion of Berlin's 750th anniversary as a Berlin garden show and met with an enthusiastic response.
It was a gift from the gardeners to the capital of the GDR. An area of over 100 hectares is freely accessible, resulting from the recreational areas of the Kienberg mountain and the Wuhletal valley to the east.
After reunification, the image of the complex also changed. A variety of playgrounds and sunbathing areas were created, as well as plenty of space for something new. Today the Marzahn recreation park unites the "Gardens of the World", a 43-hectare fenced complex.
Largest Chinese garden in Europe
The starting shot was fired in 2000 with the largest Chinese garden in Europe. On an area of 2.7 hectares, the "Garden of the Recovered Moon" was created as a gift from the city of Beijing to Berlin for the reunification of the divided city. It is designed in a classical style and aims to achieve a balanced relationship between the "seven elements". Earth, sky, water, stones, buildings, creatures and plants. All materials come from China and the entire building was realized by experts from Beijing. A fantastically beautiful complex.
Three years later, on 30 April 2003, another dream from the Far East followed with the Japanese garden.
European garden art symbolizes the maze and the Italian Renaissance garden
The "garden of the water flowing together" has a size of 2700 square meters. The Balinese Garden, "Garden of Three Harmonies" is located in a 500 square metre lightweight hall and was opened on 18 December 2003 and the Oriental Garden was opened on 07 July 2005. The "Garden of the Four Streams" can be entered via the Reception Hall, which was completed in 2007. The gardens in the Orient are an image of paradise.
On an area of 6100 square meters you can walk through the garden of satisfaction. The Korean Garden "Seoul Garden" was opened on March 31, 2006 and is a gift from the city of Seoul on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Weeks 2005.
The Hedge Maze and the Paving Maze
The hedge labyrinth and the pavement labyrinth were opened on 22 June 2007. On an area of 1800 square meters of hedges and 340 square meters of pavement, it is great fun to find the exit from the labyrinth. You can get lost from your own experience. The Karl Foerster Perennial Garden was opened on 9 May 1987 and extended and renovated in 2007/2008 and has a total size of 3600 square metres and the Italian Renaissance Garden was opened on 31 May 2008 and has a size of 3000 square metres. The Christian Garden is a replica of a medieval monastery garden covering an area of 1000 square metres and was opened on 29 April 2011. You will also find other interesting facilities on the site, such as:

Cable Car and Natural Bobsled Run
The gardens of the world have their own charm in winter and offer young and old a special time over the Christmas holidays. Eight of the nine garden cabinets can withstand the cold temperatures and thus enable visitors* to rediscover plants and flowers in their winter clothes - without the hustle and bustle of summer. And whether with a white Christmas or without: a ride on the cable car at lofty heights over the gardens is always a special experience. For the more adventurous, the journey from Kienberg to the valley with Berlin's only natural bobsled run is fast and furious.

On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays the cable car runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the natural bobsled run is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on these days (the cash desks close 30 minutes before the end of the day). Both attractions are closed on 24 December and 31 December.
