In the middle of Tiergarten park you find this national monument showing the goddess of victory, Victoria.
In 1873, it was inaugurated in front of the Reichstag building as a national monument commemorating the victory over Denmark, France and Austria. Then the goddess had to move because she did not fit into the urban planning of the Nazis.
1938 she was moved to the Tiergarten. The square is a large transport hub and is also known as the "Big Star". The figurine is gold-plated and affectionately called "Gold Else" by the Berliners. The Column can be reached over several pedestrian tunnels. It's 285 steps to climb up to the viewing platform where you have a terrific view over the Tiergarten.
Just next to the Victory Column you find the wide Tiergarten Park, a perfect place to relax after climbing up the high column to reach Goddess of Victory. Or else take a little walk and you get to the Schloss Bellevue, the residence of the German President. It´s very close by.

The Victory Column is located in the Mitte district, in the Tiergarten district. From there you can take a walk in the Tiergarten. The Tiergarten is a large recreation park and from there you can quickly reach the Reichstag. Bellevue Castle is also just around the corner. Look in the direction of the goddess of victory, Victoria, and you will see the Brandenburg Gate. So it is only a stone's throw away. If you want to walk, the Holocaust Memorial and Potsdamer Platz are on the way and not far away either.
